New Fellows in 2024
Please join us to welcome Dr. Angel Nayden, Dr. Anna Sehnalova and Dr. Daphné Sterk.
I am delighted to announce that three new Postdoctoral Fellows have joined the Research Institute for the Humanities this summer. They are Angel Nayden, Daphné Sterk, and Anna Sehnalova. During their two-year fellowships, they will be working on their own research projects, participating in the life of the Faculty, and developing research collaborations beyond the Faculty and the University.
Dr. Nayden comes to us with a background in social anthropology. After being awarded his PhD at the University of Cambridge in 2023, Angel was a teaching assistant in political anthropology at Sofia University, Bulgaria, and a lecturer in social anthropology at the University of Cambridge.
Meanwhile, with an interest in Chinese museum studies and art history, Dr. Sterk earned her PhD in Art History at the Sorbonne in Paris. Her thesis was titled “Genesis and development of the first Chinese museums: heritage, scientific and aesthetic issues (1860-1949)”.
Finally, Dr. Sehnalova is a scholar of Tibetan culture in general, and religion, ritual, and medicine in particular. She holds two doctorates, the first in Asian Studies from Charles University, Prague, awarded in 2018, and a second in Anthropology from the University of Oxford, awarded in 2024.
I would also like to congratulate Dr. Anran Wang, who joined RIH as a Postdoctoral Fellow last year and is now moving to Korea University in Seoul to take up a professorship in Chinese Studies in the new academic year.
Please join me in wishing Anran all the best in his new endeavor and welcoming our new fellows. I know Angel, Daphné, and Anna will be valuable additions to the Faculty of Arts, and I encourage you to reach out and introduce yourselves, as well as to learn more about their research and current projects.
