(31 July 2024, CUHK) “Archaeological Science in Hong Kong Initiative” hosted their fifth public workshop on 31st July. The workshop titled Exploration of Microscopic World of Artifacts: XRF and SEM-EDS, was headed by Prof. Lam Weng Cheong of the Departments of Anthropology and History. During the workshop, Prof. Lam first delivered an enthralling introduction on how to use different scientific instruments to examine the compositions of ancient metal artefacts, then took the participants to the Physics Department and showed them first-hand how a SEM-EDS works. The event has attracted attendees from a wide array of backgrounds, including students, researchers, practitioners, and general public.
