My Experience at the OxDH Summer School 2024: From Text to Tech
by Laurent LAM Pung Pan
Year 2 MPhil student in Chinese Language and Literature, CUHK
Attending the Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School (DHOxSS) from August 12-16, 2024, was a transformative experience. The workshop, “From Text to Tech,” provided invaluable insights into Natural Language Processing (NLP) using Python. Participants engaged in hands-on activities, learning how to process and analyze humanities textual data effectively.
One highlight was the evening welcome drinks reception, where we connected with fellow participants and shared ideas during a lively poster session.
Beyond the workshops, the beautiful surroundings of Oxford added to the experience, from the stunning Oxford University Press to the serene Triton Fountain in Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. This summer school not only enhanced my technical skills but also fostered a community of passionate individuals eager to advance digital humanities. I’m excited to apply what I learned to future research endeavors!
